- SkinPen + PRP Facial: the new dream team
Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, is a skin resurfacing treatment that works by stimulating your skin’s natural healing response with a series of microscopic punctures from hair-like needles, all while maintaining the overall structure of the skin. In the days and weeks following microneedling treatment, your collagen production goes into overdrive as your skin replaces damaged old skin cells with healthy new ones.
Boost collagen naturally
Collagen is the protein that makes your skin plump and young-looking, while elastin is the protein that allows your skin to stretch and bounce back. Microneedling is a form of collagen induction therapy, a natural process that involves triggering your body’s collagen and elastin production to naturally and noticeably improve your skin’s appearance. Microneedling is proven to safely and effectively provide great results for a variety of skin types and concerns.
Microneedling is often touted as a natural form of facial rejuvenation, as it does not require any added chemicals to be effective. Although we often include a booster serum in the treatment (such as a salicylic acid serum for acne), the treatment does not needs add-ons to deliver results. If you have sensitive or allergy-prone skin, seek a less intensive facial rejuvenation, or prefer your beauty regimen to be clean and organic, microneedling is the treatment for you.
- Key Benefits
- Glossary
- Stimulates Collagen Production: Microneedling triggers the body’s natural wound healing processes, resulting in increased collagen and elastin production, which are crucial for maintaining youthful skin.
- Reduces Fine Lines and Wrinkles: By boosting collagen production, SkinPen microneedling can diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, contributing to a more youthful complexion.
- Improves Skin Texture and Tone: Regular treatments can enhance overall skin texture, making it smoother, and can improve uneven skin tone, including hyperpigmentation.
- Minimizes Pore Size: Microneedling can reduce the size of pores by stimulating collagen production in and around the pores.
- Scar Treatment: Effective in reducing the appearance of acne scars and other types of scarring by promoting skin regeneration.
- Reduces Stretch Marks: Can diminish the appearance of stretch marks in various body areas.
- Minimal Downtime: Unlike more invasive procedures, microneedling is non-surgical and requires minimal downtime, allowing patients to return to normal activities more quickly.
- Enhances Product Absorption: The micro-injuries created by microneedling enhance the skin’s ability to absorb topical treatments, making them more effective.
- Safe for Most Skin Types: SkinPen microneedling is generally safe for all skin types, including darker skin tones, with a lower risk of hyperpigmentation compared to other procedures like laser treatments.
- Improves Skin Elasticity: Over time and with repeated sessions, microneedling can improve the skin’s elasticity, making it firmer.
- Natural Approach: Uses the body’s own healing mechanisms, rather than chemicals or invasive surgery, to improve skin appearance.
- Collagen: A protein in the skin that provides structure and firmness. Microneedling stimulates collagen production, leading to tighter, more youthful skin.
- Collagen Induction Therapy: Another term for microneedling, emphasizing its role in stimulating collagen production for skin rejuvenation.
- Dermis: The skin layer beneath the epidermis, containing connective tissue and hair follicles; targeted in microneedling to promote healing and rejuvenation.
- Elastin: A protein that gives skin its elasticity. Microneedling can help improve skin elasticity by stimulating elastin production.
- Epidermis: The outermost skin layer, minimally affected by microneedling to preserve skin integrity while promoting rejuvenation.
- Micro Needles: Fine, short needles used in the SkinPen device for microneedling, creating tiny punctures in the skin to initiate the healing process.
- Microneedling: A procedure using fine needles to create tiny punctures in the skin, triggering natural healing processes and collagen production.
- Minimally Invasive: A term describing procedures with minimal surgical intervention, such as microneedling, which involves no major incisions or deep tissue manipulation.
- Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation (PIH): A potential side effect of microneedling, where treated skin areas may become darker, especially in darker skin tones.
- Serums: Nutrient-rich solutions applied to the skin during or after microneedling to enhance treatment benefits.
- SkinPen: A specific brand of microneedling device, known for precision and effectiveness in skin rejuvenation.
- Topical Anesthetic: A cream or gel used to numb the skin before microneedling, reducing discomfort.
- Transdermal Delivery: Enhanced delivery of substances into deeper skin layers through micro-channels created by microneedling.
- Treatment Session: An individual appointment for microneedling, with multiple sessions often required for optimal results.

At Inland Cosmetic Surgery, we use the most advanced microneedling technology at our med spa—the SkinPen®. As the first FDA-cleared microneedling device, SkinPen is used safely and effectively around the world to improve skin texture and complexion. Best of all, SkinPen microneedling is all-natural, requiring no lasers, radiofrequency, harsh chemicals, or surgery.
What SkinPen can treat
SkinPen microneedling is effective at treating a variety of common skin conditions.
- Fine lines & wrinkles
- Mild skin laxity (i.e., “crepey” skin around the eyelids)
- Scars
- Stretch marks
- Age spots
- Sun damage
- Acne
- Hyperpigmentation
- Large pores
Don’t stop at the face
The benefits of microneedling treatments aren’t limited to the face. SkinPen is also commonly used on hands, and is an ideal treatment for diminishing the appearance of stretch marks or scars, wherever they are on your body. Many of our patients who’ve gotten surgical procedures find microneedling to be very helpful in ensuring their surgical scars heal beautifully.
Who is a good candidate for SkinPen treatments?
Unlike other non-surgical treatments, SkinPen has been clinically shown to be effective for women and men of all skin types. If you have wrinkles, acne, scars, age spots, and/or large pores you want to treat, SkinPen microneedling may be right for you.
Microneedling may not be right for you if you have active skin irritation or infection, you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or you are currently taking Accutane or a similar isotretinoin drug. During your consultation, our skin experts will help determine if microneedling is a good fit for you.
How much does microneedling cost in Rancho Cucamonga?
The cost of one microneedling session in Rancho Cucamonga begins around $350. This is very cost-effective compared to other collagen-inducing treatments, such as lasers, which typically cost at least $1,000 for a single treatment session.
How many treatments will I need?
Though just one treatment can give you smoother, more radiant skin, we recommend our Rancho Cucamonga med spa patients undergo three treatments spaced in one-month intervals for maximum results. For best results with more intensive issues—like stretch marks, acne scars, and deep wrinkles—be sure to schedule a consistent series of microneedling treatments, as you will need anywhere from 3 to 7 sessions to optimize results and see a more dramatic change. While your skin begins healing itself immediately, it will continue to improve as new collagen is produced—therefore your results should be visible within four to six weeks after your initial treatment, with skin tone continuing to improve for another couple of months. After your initial treatments, you can begin maintenance treatments to retain your hard-earned results.
What to expect during your treatment
One session takes about 30 minutes, is somewhat uncomfortable but not painful, and leaves your skin looking redder than normal (as though you had a mild sunburn). The redness will be gone in a few days, and you’ll start seeing results — such as smaller pores and improved firmness—after about a week. Results will continue to improve over time as your body naturally produces collagen and elastin to heal.
Does microneedling hurt?
SkinPen microneedling is best described as mildly uncomfortable but not painful. Many patients find it to be less painful than a laser treatment, as no heat is involved. To minimize any discomfort, your esthetician will apply a topical numbing ointment to your skin before treatment, and OTC pain relievers may be recommended following treatment.
What is recovery like?
One of the greatest advantages that SkinPen microneedling has over lasers or other collagen-inducing treatments is that it requires little to no downtime. It is performed as an outpatient procedure with no anesthesia required.
Some redness is normal for the first few days following treatment and should quickly dissipate. You can resume your normal activities after treatment, though we advise patients to wait until the face is healed before applying makeup. You’ll also want to be sure to apply a broad-spectrum SPF to protect your treated skin from the sun, as it will be more sensitive for the first few days.

What treatments can enhance results?
SkinPen treatments create microchannels connecting your skin’s surface layers to its deeper layers, which means that your skin will be significantly more receptive to additional skincare treatments following microneedling. For this reason, we suggest following your SkinPen procedure with other non-surgical skin rejuvenation treatments, including:
- Botox or dermal filler injections
- Customized facials
- Light chemical peels
We also encourage our microneedling patients to use medical-grade skincare products to maximize their results following their treatment.
SkinPen + PRP Facial: The new dream team
Platelet-rich Plasma Facials are the secret to smooth, youthful skin! PRP Facials use your own plasma to rejuvenate your skin and stimulate collagen. Combining PRP with microneedling often yields better results compared to either treatment alone due to the synergistic effects of the two procedures.
Benefits of PRP:
- Improves the tone and texture of your skin
- Used with our SkinPen microneedling system to infuse the PRP
- Includes the face and neck
Microneedling + PRP facials are $750 for 1 session or $2100 for a series of 3 treatments.
