Chin Augmentation in Rancho Cucamonga
Our caring cosmetic surgeons will work closely with you to find the perfect chin implant to bring your face in balance
A strong, well-defined chin has been a hallmark of beauty throughout the ages. A proportionate chin serves to bring balance to the face, helping to accentuate your features and provide an attractive contour between your head and neck. That’s why many who have a weak or receding chin often feel like their entire face looks “off,” regardless of the fact that other features look fine.
Chin augmentation, or mentoplasty, is a surgical procedure that has helped thousands improve their appearance by altering the contours of their face. By strengthening the chin with a chin implant, we are able to help bring your features back into balance and proportion and enhance your overall look.
Am I a good candidate for chin enhancement?
The best candidate for chin augmentation has a small or receding chin and a normal dental bite. For those with a bite dysfunction, jaw surgery in conjunction with chin augmentation may be necessary. In some cases, a chin augmentation may also be performed in conjunction with micro-liposuction or other cosmetic facial procedures, such as rhinoplasty and facelift, for enhanced results.
During your private consultation with Dr. Jacob Haiavy, Dr. Irene Tower, and Dr. Emma Ryan you’ll have the opportunity to explain your primary concerns and goals. Your surgeon will examine your chin, jawline, and bite to determine what the best course of treatment is for you.

Your augmentation with chin implants
Once you and your surgeon have determined that chin augmentation is a good choice for you, it’s time to talk about your chin implant, which will be customized to your needs. The projection, width, and height of your implant will directly impact the profile and balance of your face, so it’s important to make sure you’re communicating your goals with your surgeon.
What are chin implants made of?
Typically, chin implants are made of a bio-compatible, medical-grade silicone that has been proven safe for use in the body. They are built to be strong and durable while also maintaining elasticity for a natural look.
What is chin augmentation surgery like?
Your chin augmentation surgery will be performed on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia or IV sedation (twilight) at our accredited surgical facility in Rancho Cucamonga. Your cosmetic surgeon will begin by making an incision either inside the mouth or just under the chin where it will be minimally visible. The implant, sized exactly to fit you, will then be placed in a pocket above the chin bone and beneath the muscles.
After your procedure, you’ll be able to go home the same day. Depending on your individual circumstances, your chin may be taped or bandage to help reduce swelling and discomfort immediately after surgery. You’ll need to have a designated driver take you home and help you around the house that evening as the effects of anesthesia wear off. Recent improvements in design help to augment the chin with a very natural result. Patients are up and around the day of surgery, however, strenuous activities must be avoided for some time.
Alternatives to chin augmentation
It’s common for patients to arrive at their consultation thinking they need chin implants only to learn that they may benefit more from another technique. For instance, submental fullness (excess fat under the chin and jawline) can camouflage a relatively strong chin and make it look weak or recessed. In these cases, liposuction of the neck can improve the contour between the neck and chin to accentuate the jawline and restore balance to the face.
In some cases, those who only require a subtle change to see improvement might be a good candidate for non-surgical chin enhancement with the use of dermal fillers. When injected, fillers can temporarily add projection to the chin for those who are unsure about having surgery.
